She held his hand as he slept, her eyes searching his face lovingly for signs that he was waking.
She didn't see the years upon his skin, the oxygen mask that helped him breath or the white sterile wall of the room he rested in.

She saw the young man whose smiles was for her alone, the tall dark handsome soldier she danced with every night at the Palace.  She saw her husband as he held her tenderly as he lay her upon their bed kissing her neck softly.

She saw the father of their children as she looked out from the kitchen window watching is happy laughing babies with golden hair that glistened in the sun.

She smiled to herself touching his grey hair softly.  Her fingers tracing his lips and then touching hers.
Always she whispered to him.  The nurse touched her shoulder and said in a soft voice "He is gone Mrs May" "Not gone" she said just waiting.
